Strata Group was asked to provide structural, civil, storm water, traffic and fire engineering design solutions for a large, specialised maintenance and service workshop. The brief ran from a feasibility study and concept through to the completion of construction.
CablePrice is developing a nationwide network of branches from which to sell and service light to heavy plant and machinery. Their portfolio includes specialist vehicles used in the transport, rural contracting, construction, forestry, mining and drilling industries.
The project consisted of a large maintenance workshop with gantry crane system, a two-storey office block, yard and truck wash. The workshop and truck wash structures are two-way steel portals with precast panels. The office is made from steel, concrete panels and timber. A specialised stormwater disposal system was installed consisting of swales and an underground soakage/storage system.
This project provided structural challenges in the design of a specialised workshop for the maintenance and service of heavy plant and machinery. The design included specialised foundations for plant lifts, hoists, braking systems and encased steel floor protection; gantry cranes and monorails.
The site stormwater disposal system was a particular design challenge as maximum yard area was needed for traffic movement.
From design to build, Stead Construction Ltd produced a quality building for CablePrice which was a pleasure to be involved with.
