To design and document a 150m² private dwelling in a remote part of the Fiordland National Park.
This was a new private lodge set in virgin forest in the foothills of the alpine mountain range on Lake McKerrow with access to the site by helicopter and boat only. It consisted of a simple ‘hut’ type dwelling with a bunk room wing for sleeping, a covered outdoor entertainment area, and an open plan kitchen/dining and living room.
The remote nature of the site meant our design had to take into account the difficult access. The construction techniques were carefully considered to minimise transport difficulties and buildability issues on-site.
