To provide a detailed seismic assessment and structural strengthening of the historic library and administration block.
The building was assessed as ‘Earthquake Prone’ and requiring strengthening. The project involved structural strengthening and fire engineering design.
The project required sensitive structural strengthening solutions incorporating retaining the historic appearance and working around the school’s day-to-day activities.
Protection of the ornate internal linings and lead-light windows required innovative construction techniques including installing counter-weighted beams. Ongoing dialogue with the contractor about various construction techniques resulted in a successful installation of the primary structural strengthening elements.
The heavy tiled roof and sagging timber roof structure also had to be replaced as part of the upgrade.
The project was completed on time and within budget.
