Kuranui College – new facilities, Greytown
EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT | STRUCTURAL DESIGN
DURATION: 2026
CLIENT: KURANUI COLLEGE
THE BRIEF
Strata Group was engaged by Apollo Projects to provide structural and civil engineering for a new gymnasium and associated facilities at Kuranui College in Greytown. Working collaboratively from concept through to construction, the project required practical structural solutions delivered within an active school environment, keeping students and staff safe while maintaining programme efficiency on site.
THE SOLUTION
The gymnasium structure uses a steel portal frame system, selected for its span efficiency, buildability, and cost-effectiveness within Apollo's design-build programme. Careful attention was given to construction staging, sequencing works to maintain safe separation from the school's occupied spaces throughout the build. Strata worked closely with Apollo and the wider consultant team from early concept through to construction completion, ensuring structural decisions supported both the design intent and the programme.
THE OUTCOME
The new gymnasium is now complete and in active use by Kuranui College students, staff and the wider community. The project is a strong example of what's achievable when structural and civil engineering is embedded in the design-build process from day one. Practical, well-coordinated, and delivered without disruption to an operational school.
