THE BRIEF
Part of Hastings District Council’s Drinking Water Strategy, Strata Group undertook structural and civil engineering design of the new discovery centre and landscaping structures as part of the wider design team. The education centre highlights glulam portal frames as the main structural system.

THE CHALLENGE
Designed within and around the wider water infrastructure project, careful coordination between the water infrastructure design team, as well as  the education and landscaping design team was required. Incorporation of pou and entry structural support was also worked through with local iwi representatives and artists.

THE OUTCOME
A fantastic water education facility constructed in the heart of Hastings has become a beacon of sustainability and excellent design, winning the supreme award for excellence in environmental leadership at the recent Local Government Awards.
