THE BRIEF
A new Civic Administration Building measuring 3,665m2 over three floors. Incorporating innovative buckling restrained braces and optimized sliding hinge joints for a low damage, resilient structural design which self-rights after a seismic event.
Strata Group have engaged with Tuwharetoa, local iwi artists and Te Ara Hihiko, not only around the structural design of the building, but also the support of significant artwork covering the 3-storey high, 35m long atrium wall and the support of the pou within the atrium space.
THE CHALLENGE
Superstructure design of both gravity and lateral load-resisting systems for importance level 4 requirements.
THE OUTCOME
Currently under construction, it is expected that the building will be weathertight in August 2024, and fitout will commence.
