THE BRIEF
Sunfruits, in its journey of continuous evolution and expansion, identified the need for a large, state-of-the-art packhouse in the Hawke’s Bay region to propel them into the next phase of growth. With a workforce ranging from 30 to 75 staff, depending on the season, this automated facility aimed to meet the demands of a business exporting up to three-quarters of its products, predominantly to Europe. Strata Group were engaged as the lead consultant, taking charge of overseeing the civil and structural design teams throughout the project.

THE OUTCOME
Applying the latest and proven design principles, the facility prioritised lower maintenance while incorporating cutting-edge technology and automation. Completion of the second stage of this $70 million coolstore development included controlled atmosphere stores, a packhouse, and office spaces. The 13,000sqm facility is now operational, serving as a hub for sorting and distributing pip and stone fruit from the Waikato and Hawke’s Bay regions for export. The project was completed on time and within budget.
